1. What time will the fireworks show start and how long will it last?

Fireworks will start at approximately 9:30 p.m., and will last approximately 15 minutes.

2. Why the 3rd of July instead of the 4th of July?

The Town of Erie began celebrating Independence Day on July 3 more than 20 years ago. The festivities have varied, and changed over time. From parades to concerts, speeches, and baseball games to pie eating and pageants. But one thing will never change; a celebration among friends under an illuminated sky.

3. Will there be any additional activities on site for July 3rd?

This is a fireworks show only with select vendors throughout the site. However, patrons are encouraged to bring their own activities, such as lawn chairs or games, to enjoy while they wait for fireworks to begin. In addition, we recommend that visitors check out local businesses throughout the holiday.

4. Will there be music?

Music will be played throughout the event. The fireworks display will be choreographed to coincide with highs and lows in the music and the overall tenor of the song, greatly increasing the enjoyment of those in attendance.

5. Will there be any food or vending options available?

Food vendors will be provided in the south parking lot located just east of the skate park beginning at 6 p.m. Do your part to help make this a low to no waste event! Waste stations will be placed around the park with options for landfill, recycling, and compost. Avoid bringing single use plastics into the event by bringing your own reusable water bottle.

6. What type of fireworks are used for the show? Do the pyrotechnics make a similar 'boom' sound?

We use close proximity fireworks for this show, which are specifically designed to be launched at a lower altitude. This makes them safe and ideal for use in crowded areas, where traditional fireworks may not be practical or permitted. These fireworks are known for their bright colors, vivid displays, and ability to be synchronized to music. They create a range of visual effects, including glitter, strobes, and crackles, and are designed to produce a similar ‘boom’ sound to traditional fireworks shows. We take safety very seriously and work closely with our licensed pyrotechnicians to ensure that the fireworks display is conducted safely.

7. How close can we sit to the show?

There will be a 100' perimeter set around the Erie Community Center for the fallout zone. Our pyrotechnics team indicated that Civic Green and Mitchell Field will be the best viewing locations for the show.

8. Are there any alternate viewing locations?

We encourage patrons in proximity to the Erie Community Center to view from their homes or neighborhood parks. 

9. Will any streets be closed in the neighborhoods surrounding the Erie Community Park during the event?

No, in an effort to preserve traffic ingress (entrance) and egress (exit) and allow for emergency vehicle access we will not be closing any streets surrounding the Erie Community Park during the event. The only exception to this is Powers Street into the Erie Community Center will be closed from 1-6 p.m. on Monday, July 3 for event preparation. 

10. Will there be on-site parking?

Parking will open at 6 p.m. with access to the Erie Community Center main lot and will be on a first come, first serve basis. Additional parking available at Boulder Community Health (101 Erie Pkwy). No parking on Erie Parkway, or E County Line Road. Coal Creek Center, located on the southeast corner of Erie Parkway and County Line Rd, is privately owned and therefore public parking is not available. We strongly encourage alternate modes of transportation to the show, as parking is very limited. View our trail and alternative parking access map for nearby parking locations.

11. Will handicap parking be available?

ADA accessible parking will be located at the north end of the Erie Community Center parking lot along with permanent ADA parking spaces. Signage and parking services will direct patrons upon arrival.

12. Is this a bike-friendly event?

Yes. Permanent bike racks are located around the Erie Community Center and Erie Community Park. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own locks, as the Town of Erie is not responsible for lost or stolen property.

13. Restrooms Provided?

Restrooms will be available at Erie Community Park at Garfield Shelter, the Post Shelter, and the concession stand. Additional port-a-potties and hand washing stations will be located in a central location near the handicap parking area. 

14. Will any amenities be open during the time of the event?

Tennis courts will be closed and locked at 1 p.m. for remainder of the afternoon/evening. Skate park will be closed at dusk, and no lights will be programmed for the evening. 

The Erie Community Center will operate with amended hours on Monday, July 3 and remain open from 6 a.m.-1 p.m. The Center will remain closed on Tuesday, July 4 and open with regular hours at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5.

15. Zero Waste Event?

Yes, the Town of Erie is working towards reducing the amount of waste that ends up in the landfill at all of our events, including July 3rd. This takes an all hands on deck approach! When attending events in Erie, be a zero waste champion in three easy steps: 

1. Pack out what you bring in. Don’t forget your reusable water bottle!
2. Think before you toss. Events will have 3 bins for your waste. Check signage attached to the bin to ensure you are disposing of your trash in the right bin. 
3. Reduce contamination. Tell your family, friends and neighbors about this effort and share zero waste knowledge across the Town.

16. What is prohibited?

Personal fireworks Tailgating, RV's/campers, glass bottles, drones, personal grills, drugs, alcohol, and firearms are prohibited.

17. Can we bring our own alcohol?

No.

18. Are shade tents/shade structures allowed?

Yes, tents and/or shade structures are allowed the event. However, for safety reasons, they must be properly weighted and secured using sandbags or tent weights (no stakes allowed). We also ask that all structures be set up in a manner that does not intrude on the fireworks viewing experience for other event participants. Please be mindful of your neighbors and ensure that your tent or structure does not block anyone’s view of the show.

19. Are dogs allowed?

Pets must be on leash at all times. For your pet’s comfort, it is recommended to leave them at home during the fireworks display.
