What do you love about working in Erie?
Joel: I have never met nicer people in my life. From the Command Staff, Officers and civilians at the Police Department to other town staff and especially the citizens. I am excited each day to work with, and for, the Town.
Jodi: I love working in Erie because of the community. Everyone is friendly and so supportive!
How long have you been in law enforcement?
Joel: I have been a police officer for 10 years and with Erie for 3 months.
Jodi: I have been a police officer with Erie for 6 months. Previously I was a reserve with Boulder County Sheriff’s Office for a year.
Why did you want to be in law enforcement?
Joel: I wanted to work in a profession that offers direct interaction with the community, a bit of variety each day, and of course, fast cars.
Jodi: The main reason I want to be in law enforcement is to feed my love of helping people. Each day is different, and I love never knowing what to expect.
Tell us about your average day
Joel: I am assigned to the northwest neighborhoods. I enjoy many aspects of being a patrol officer. Whether responding to calls, performing proactive duties or engaging in community activities, I strive to be as busy as I can.
Jodi: I work nights in the southwest neighborhoods and generally don’t get many calls for service. I patrol the neighborhoods, and construction sites and am on the lookout for anything out of the ordinary or suspicious. I also love visiting businesses that are open and getting to know the people in our community.
What are you doing when not working?
Joel: When I am away from work I try to relax as much as I can. That usually involves playing sports, traveling or watching movies.
Jodi: For fun, my three boys and I love to do anything outdoors. As a Colorado native, and Erie resident it's no surprise I enjoy hiking, fishing, camping, and snowboarding!
