It is Fall Clean-Up Week!
This year’s free drop-off event at the landfill is from Sept.11-16 with the special item recycling drop-off on Saturday, Sept. 16 at the Leon A. Wurl Service Center (150 Bonnell Avenue). Landfill drop-off no longer requires a voucher – just proof of residency in the form of a utility bill (with your name that matches an ID) or just your ID card with an Erie address printed on it. Stop by anytime during regular landfill operating hours to drop off items for free between Sept.11-16.
Be sure to save certain items to be recycled at the one-day event on Sept. 16 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. This event will feature metal, electronics, and paper shredding as always as well as the disposal of household hazardous waste, bike tube/tire recycling, and mattress disposal (for a small fee). See the Clean-Up Events webpage for all accepted items, a map of the drop-off area, and details about how to be prepared to pay any applicable fees. The Sustainability Division will be on site to chat about recycling, composting, energy, water conservation, and other topics and will be handing out giveaways to participants who stop by to chat.
