Share the Road with School BusesStopping and using caution around buses is guaranteed to increase happiness by 100%. It’s true! If you see a bus flashing yellow, plan for them to prepare to stop, prompting you to follow suit. As soon as the lights start flashing red, motorists must come to a complete stop whether you are behind the bus or on the other side of a two-lane roadway (with painted lines). It’s also important that motorists use caution on a multi-lane road or divided highway with unpaved medians, or barriers when a bus stops.

But you can help ensure a safer future for our communities! A Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) is a plan designed to assist in mitigating wildfire risk by assessing areas at risk and recommending measures to decrease those risks. You can play a part in crafting fire mitigation recommendations to reduce risk in our community by joining an upcoming community event! An upcoming event in Erie will be on Wednesday, Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. in the Leon A. Wurl Service Center building at 150 Bonnell (Lambert) Ave. Boulder County, MVFPD, and the Town of Erie will be on hand to discuss mitigation best practices and engage with interested members of the public. Community Chipping Program for Boulder County Residents One important part of reducing the risk from wildfire is reducing the fuels around your home. Removal of branches and brush (also called slash) from your property can help slow, or even stop, a wildfire from spreading to your structure. Boulder County Wildfire Partners is now offering to help facilitate chipping events for residents who live in Boulder County. A minimum of five participating neighbors are required to host a community chipping event. At each community event, a County-approved chipping contractor will provide the chipping services and haul the chips to a partnering donation site. Learn more about the chipping program, eligibility criteria, and application and scheduling process. This is a great opportunity in particular for those homes adjacent to open space or with more land.

Cone ZonesEach week we list the projects that may have the biggest impact on traffic flow for that week. As always, please sign up for alerts to get more details about these projects and many others. More information and details for how to sign up are at www.erieco.gov/ConeZone. Neighborhood Speed Reminder: Heads up! School's back in full swing, and that means our children are out and about early and often throughout the day. Let’s make sure we're keeping an eye out and slowing down… especially when driving around school zones and our own residential streets. Those school zone signs and speed limits? They're there for a reason, and nobody wants a ticket or an accident. Also, let's not forget that after school, our neighborhoods turn into mini playgrounds. Soccer games on front lawns… bike races down the sidewalk. The little ones are making the most of their built-up energy from the day. So, whether you're rushing home from work or heading out for errands, take a sec to double-check. Let's work together to keep Erie the safe and fun community we all love! Want to be more involved in helping manage speed in our neighborhoods. Check out ways to get involved with the Neighborhood Speed Management Program at www.erieco.us/speed-management.
