Participate in Latest Phase of Elevate Erie

Thank you to the community for your interest and participation in the Elevate Erie project so far. This important update process for the Town’s Comprehensive Plan & Transportation Mobility Plan is key to growing responsibly into the future. We truly appreciate the community’s commitment to making your voices heard and providing feedback on the future of the Town. 

The second phase of the project, started in July 2023, is all about defining the direction the Town wants to take for its future. A draft vision and values for the integrated Comprehensive Plan & Transportation Mobility Plan has been developed and now we want to refine the draft ideas with more input from local leaders, advisory committees, and the community.

Prepare & Persevere: Start & Grow Your Business in Erie

On Wednesday, Aug. 23, from 5:30-7 p.m., the Town of Erie is hosting a two-part event for entrepreneurs at the Erie Community Library (400 Powers Street). The first 30 minutes will be dedicated to "How to Start a Business in Erie". Town of Erie Economic Development Manager Stephanie Pitts-Noggle will introduce the Town's Economic Development team, review the steps for getting a business license, and walk through opening a brick-and-mortar store in Erie. Jesse Esparza, the Development Counselor with the Small Business Development Center, will give an overview of the services that he and the SBDC can provide at no cost to aspiring Erie-based entrepreneurs.

From 6-7 p.m. will be a panel discussion with Erie-based, BIPOC business owners. You will hear from: 

  • Kavita Sienknecht, Principal and Co-founder of UpLift Collaborative
  • Justin Brooks, Mayor of Erie and serial entrepreneur
  • Berenice Garcia Tellez, Founder & President, Monarca Group
  • Andra Hargrave, Director of the Minority Business Development Agency

The panel will discuss their experiences starting and growing their businesses, the challenges and opportunities they've encountered as minority business owners, and words of wisdom for those looking to start their own businesses in Erie.

ECC Maintenance Closures

Each year, the Erie Community Center plans all major maintenance to be consolidated during the same few weeks to minimize disruptions to patrons’ use of the facility. This year there are many maintenance activities planned to begin this week. First, the pool will be closed for extended maintenance this year from Aug. 16-Sept. 22 to accommodate some large-scale projects taking place in that space.

Next will be work on the gymnasium. To prepare for work scheduled to take place in the gym over maintenance week, including recoating the floor, the amenity will be closed a handful of days prior to the full facility closure. 

Finally, the entire Center will be closed from Monday, Aug. 28 through Monday, Sept. 4. No public access to the facility will be granted during this time.

From Monday, Aug. 28 through Monday, Sep. 4 all ECC members may access either facility. All you need to do is present your ECC membership to the front desk staff to gain access. Please check with each facility directly regarding hours of operations, class schedules, amenities, etc.

Velodrome Grand Opening Party

The Boulder Valley Velodrome is open once again! The non-profit Team Colorado Cycling has been working nonstop to bring the velodrome back to life and they are ready to invite the public in. The Town of Erie contributed funds to the project, and we are happy to be a sponsor for this revitalized amenity.

The Grand Opening party will be on Saturday, Aug. 19 from 2-7 p.m.

This is a community celebration intended to bring people together to enjoy thrilling races, delicious food, and a few giveaways. Whether you're a cycling enthusiast or simply looking for a fun day out, come check out the newest community space. Visit www.BoulderValleyVelodrome.org for more information.

Detention Basin Maintenance: Upcoming maintenance activities are scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 14, 2023 for the Extended Detention Basin (EDB) located between St. Luke’s Orthodox Christian Church and the Boulder Valley Velodrome near the intersection of County Line Road and Austin Avenue. There will be no impacts to the roadway or any sidewalks/trails. In collaboration with the Mile High Flood District, The Town of Erie will initiate routine maintenance of the EDB - this is a standard procedure and not a response to any system failure.

As part of this work, a contractor will be on-site to clear accumulated soil and unwanted vegetation in the basin. Due to the wet nature of the soil, the displaced material will be stockpiled in the area for about three weeks, allowing it to dry adequately before it's suitable for disposal. Residents may notice an odor from the drying soil during this period. We ask everyone to exercise caution around the work area and follow any posted safety directives. We value your patience and understanding as we strive to maintain our Town's infrastructure effectively.
