July is National Park & Recreation MonthSince 1985, July has been celebrated as national Park and Recreation Month. A program of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), the goal is to raise awareness of the essential services that park and recreation professionals provide to communities across the United States. This July, Erie Parks & Recreation is celebrating with the theme Where Community Grows. All month long, we’ll be highlighting the ways our community is stronger, more vibrant, and more resilient because of parks and recreation. For more information, go to www.nrpa.org/july. Don't forget to join us for the annual Medallion Mania hunt beginning Monday, July 24. Clues to be announced on the Parks & Recreation Department social media channels each morning until the medallion is found.

Mosquitos Test Positive for West NileBoulder County Public Health has confirmed that mosquitoes in a mosquito pool have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV). The positive pool came from a trap located near Erie. WNV is transmitted to humans from the bite of an infected mosquito. While most infections are mild, the more serious infections can cause encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) and/or meningitis (inflammation of the brain’s lining), loss of vision, paralysis, coma, tremors, convulsions, and death. Symptoms of WNV include fever, extreme fatigue, headache, body aches and occasionally skin rashes and swollen lymph nodes. Generally, symptoms appear three to 14 days after being bitten by an infected mosquito. Anyone who experiences these symptoms should consult their health care providers. Residents should take precautions to protect themselves. Keep safe this summer, and remember the 4Ds: - Use DEET-enhanced insect repellent or alternative.
- DRESS in long sleeves and pants.
- Avoid the outdoors from DUSK until DAWN.
- DRAIN standing water outside your home.
Erie contracts with Vector Disease Control International (VDCI) to mitigate mosquito populations and to trap, collect, and test for West Nile. Learn more about their efforts.

Cone ZonesEach week we list the projects that may have the biggest impact on traffic flow for that week. As always, please sign up for alerts to get more details about these projects and many others. More information and details for how to sign up are at www.erieco.gov/ConeZone. Coal Creek Boulevard: After months of hard work and coordination, we are delighted that Coal Creek Boulevard officially opened last week on Tuesday, June 27. This new route, which replaces the southern portion of County Line Road as the connection to Hwy 7, enhances transportation in our community and provides improved access to various destinations. We understand the inconvenience caused during the construction, and sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding throughout the transition. The permanent closure of County Line Road in this area was necessary to complete utility work associated with the Lafayette Water Reclamation Facility Expansion project and the decommissioning plan within the Parkdale development project. We are grateful for your cooperation and support during this crucial phase of our infrastructure development.
