Community Photo Contest to Help Inform Public ArtThe Wings to Dreams art piece was recently approved by the Board of Trustees and consists of three stainless steel, iridescent pillars ranging in height from 15ft to 20ft. The three pillars will be painted in a way that appears to change color as the light moves. These pillars consist of unique items symbolizing the spirit of Erie and Colorado. Our artist is still looking for inspiration for some very Erie-specific items to include in these pillars, and YOU could help guide the way! We are actively seeking photos that depict your favorite natural elements around Erie. This could include photos of tree species, specific foliage, local wildlife, native flowers and plants, local agricultural crops, landscape features, etc. Photo submissions will then be used to help determine which natural elements are most important to the community. Your favorite photos could also be featured in our upcoming activity guides, in social media posts, on our website, and as inspiration for future public art pieces. Submit your photos online.

Town of Erie Partners with Evergreen for Town CenterLess than one year ago, the Town of Erie purchased 19.41 acres of land from Regency Realty Group at the northwest corner of Erie Parkway and County Line Road. This parcel is the integral, “last piece of the puzzle” for Erie’s Town Center project. Now, the Town is pleased to announce it has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Evergreen Devco Inc. as its development partner to purchase this land and bring the project to completion. The Town Center Planned Development (PD) outlines goals for a small-format grocery store, hotel, mixed-use commercial, and civic uses for this parcel of land. Evergreen is a major retail shopping center developer in the Front Range and specializes in public-private partnerships and developing grocery-anchored retail, like the Nine Mile Corner mixed use project in Erie. Evergreen is preparing a purchase contract to present to the Board of Trustees in the next 60 days and plans to complete the purchase and begin construction in the next 24 months. More opportunities for public engagement will be forthcoming for the civic space in this project. Look for more information coming soon.

Final Stages of Home Rule Charter DraftingThe nine elected members of the Home Rule Charter Commission have been hard at work since early December 2022 in drafting a guiding document for our Town government. They have held Working Meetings each Thursday evening, invited subject matter experts to weigh in on certain topics, held Public Engagement meetings each month, and are now getting ready to wrap up the document to present to the Board of Trustees. The following dates will wrap up this process before the proposed charter goes on the ballot for a vote: The Board of Trustees have the responsibility by State Statute of accepting the presentation of the Charter and adding the Charter to the upcoming November ballot for a vote. Residents should review the Charter document thoroughly prior to November 2023 to make an educated decision on this important topic. All summaries of Working Meetings and Public Engagement Meetings, along with the draft of the Charter, is available with recordings of the meetings on the Charter Commission webpage.

Cone ZonesEach week we list the projects that may have the biggest impact on traffic flow for that week. As always, please sign up for alerts to get more details about these projects and many others. More information and details for how to sign up are at www.erieco.gov/ConeZone. - Meadowlark Traffic Calming – Due to inclement weather, the Meadowlark School traffic project will be delayed at least one day. The current schedule will move project groundbreaking to Tuesday, March 28. Town contractors will begin street renovations near Meadowlark School to mellow traffic speeds. Work will not impact school pickup/drop off times due to Boulder Valley Schools spring break this week. Construction is expected to take two weeks once initiated (weather permitting). While concrete demolition and restoration will be complete within the two-week period (weather permitting), some signage related to the project will not be installed and complete for six to eight weeks.
Road work is weather-dependent, and timelines may shift. Motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians should always be aware and use caution when in and around work zones. Whenever possible, please avoid the construction areas.
