Town of Erie Awarded $55,000 Grant

The Town of Erie is proud to announce that we have been awarded $55,000 from the Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE) to support our project, Racial Equity Advancement through Community Partnerships & Economic Development (Erie Racial Equity Pilot). The Town is among six other major municipalities such as New York City and Chicago as an awardee this year.

This funding is part of the Innovation and Implementation Fund from GARE which includes contributions from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the California Endowment. Projects selected for this cycle of funding involve partnerships with community driven efforts to support employee-owned business models.

Year-End Population Estimates Shared from Planning & Development

The Planning Division of the Planning & Development Department is responsible for preparing estimates of the Town’s year-end population to be used in various planning efforts. The year-end numbers for 2022 have been collected and shared by the division. Recent research and analysis indicate the Town’s population as of Dec. 31, 2022, was 34,828. Based on these year-end estimates, the population of Erie has increased 2,176 people or approximately 6.7% since the end of 2021 (end-of-year population estimate of 32,652 in 2021).

This estimate is derived from several variables including:

Number of dwelling units
Vacancy rate
Average household size for single-family and multi-family dwellings
Population living in group quarters

Join a Training to Learn About Volunteering on Board & Commissions

People Engaged in Raising Leaders’ (PERL), in partnership with Social Venture Partners, is offering a Boards and Commissions training for interested participants. This Boards and Commissions training course will begin Feb. 21 and end on March 2. Classes will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7:30 p.m. online via Zoom. The training is free and space is limited. Register online for this opportunity.

The Boards and Commissions trainings will cover topics such as: Boards Roles and Responsibilities, Board Applications and Interviewing, Board Culture and Survival Strategies, Board Oversight/Management, Cultural/Effective Communication, Fundraising Philanthropy, and Robert’s Rules of Order. There will also be a sponsored meet-and-greet where trainees will have an opportunity to connect and be in the room with current board members and leaders.

Traffic Light at WCR 5 and Flora View – The traffic light at the intersection of WCR 5 and Flora View Drive is now activated. Please use extra caution when traveling through this intersection in the coming days and weeks while all drivers adjust to the new pattern.

Road work is weather-dependent, and timelines may shift. Motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians should always be aware and use caution when in and around work zones. Whenever possible, please avoid the construction areas.
