Neighbors Helping Neighbors – Marshall Fire One Year Later

One year after the Marshall Fire swept through Superior, Louisville, and Boulder County, clean-up and rebuilding is ongoing for our neighbors. The physical footprint of the fire may have taken just over 1,000 homes, but the emotional toll is much higher. The Town of Erie as an organization and as a community offered help to our neighbors in multiple ways; from providing police support during the incident itself, to giving aid in flushing water systems to ensure safe drinking water, to donating funds or items that supported families who lost everything they owned.

Another heavy lift of support was accepting fire debris at the landfill in our community as families cleaned up their properties. The Front Range Landfill inspected and carefully accepted 7,038 loads of material weighing just over 98,435 tons. The Town of Erie along with CDPHE have been actively helping to monitor and support this activity. Without this support, cleanup and rebuilding may have extended significantly longer as loads of material would need to be trucked much further from the fire location. We are happy to see regrowth and rebuilding happening to our west and look forward to welcoming our neighbors back home as soon as possible!

Recycle Broken Holiday Lights with the Help of CHaRM

As you remove holiday decorations, perhaps you notice some lights that didn’t survive the season. Now what? Did you know that the Town of Erie partners with EcoCycle CHaRM to accept old incandescent lights for free as scrap metal? Just roll them into a tight ball – no need to remove the bulbs - and bring the roll to 6400 Arapahoe Road in Boulder or to the Longmont Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street.

Then consider making the switch and investing in LEDs for next year. They may cost a little more up front, but holiday LED lights consume 80% less energy and last up to 25 times longer. Worth it!

Town of Erie Cone Zones

Road Grinding on Erie Parkway – The contractor for roadwork at Erie Parkway and WCR 7 will be working on smoothing out the roadway as snow/ice melt and temperatures rise above 35 degrees. This work is necessary to bring the road into compliance with the Town’s construction standards. Lane shifts will be in place throughout the grinding process and work is weather/temperature dependent.
- Traffic light is scheduled to be functional at the intersection on Feb. 14, weather permitting. More information about the installation and exact timing will be coming soon.

Road work is weather-dependent, and timelines may shift. Motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians should always be aware and use caution when in and around work zones. Whenever possible, please avoid the construction areas.
