Share the Road. Be Alert.


Motorists can help to make the road safer for motorcyclists. 
 
  • Provide motorcyclists with adequate room to maneuver. 
  • Leave at least a 3-4 second following distance. 
  • Allow extra maneuvering room in areas with potholes, pavement transitions, and railroad crossings. 
  • Never try to share a lane with a motorcycle. 
  • If a motorcycle is nearby, check your mirrors carefully before changing lanes. 
  • Slow your decision-making process down at intersections. Proceed with caution and look twice for motorcycles. 
  • Stay alert and remember to keep your hands, eyes, and mind on the road ahead. 
  • Wear a seatbelt.

  • Make sure you are visible to car and truck drivers as well as other motorcyclists. 
  • Leave at least 3-4 seconds following distance. 
  • Watch for potentially dangerous road hazards which can cause a motorcyclist to lose control. 
  • Never try to share a lane with a motorist. 
  • If a motorist is nearby, check your mirrors carefully before changing lanes. 
  • Be extra cautious at intersections and watch for oncoming cars. 
  • Stay alert and remember to keep your hands, eyes, and mind on the road ahead. 
  • Wear a helmet and other protective gear.
