Board of Trustees Approves Changes to Face Mask Requirements in the Town of Erie
At their Regular Meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 8 the Board of Trustees unanimously approved Resolution 22-31 which lifts the requirement to wear masks when indoors in public spaces which are in Weld County. Any businesses and public spaces which are in Boulder County are still required to follow Boulder County’s indoor mask mandate (Public Health Order 2021-08) until it is lifted by the Boulder County Board of Public Health.
As a result of the Board’s vote, mask requirements in facilities in the Town of Erie within Weld County jurisdiction are subject to the policies set by the owners/managers of those facilities.
In making this decision, the Board heard from Executive Director Camille Rodriguez from Boulder County Public Health and Dr. Stephen Cobb from Centura Hospitals as well as taking public comment from many residents. The Trustees, Mayor, and Mayor Pro Tem all gave thoughts and opinions on how they were approaching this decision. Their thoughts included appeals to the public for kindness and respect for one another – especially as some exercise their choice to continue wearing a mask. The Board also indicated we should continue to track updated health data as the pandemic progresses in order to determine whether additional precautions are needed or if further recension of other policies (local emergency declaration) should be considered.
