Service Gathering Line Removal: Deadleg
The Town of Erie received notice from Western Midstream regarding the removal of an out-of-service gathering line, located within Erie limits (adjacent to Lombardi St, crossing Carlson Ave and Kenosha Rd). Within the town limits, the gathering line is to be decommissioned in its entirety, including portions beneath road crossing rights-of-way(s), which will be cleaned, stabilized, and abandoned in place. Western Midstream reports the operations will begin the week of Nov. 8, 2021.
All aboveground equipment and installations associated with this project will be removed. The remainder of this pipeline will be abandoned in place in order to reduce the impact to residents and drastically decrease overall surface disturbance within town open space, while still ensuring the same level of safety of our residents. To abandon the pipeline, Western Midstream will isolate the line from all other oil and gas equipment and fill it with nitrogen, a non-flammable gas, to safely stabilize the line.
If you have questions on the process, please email Western Midstream at rockiesstakeholder@westernmidstream.com.
