Town of Erie Extends Boulder County Face Covering Order to All of Town

On April 28, 2020, the Board of Trustees declared a local disaster emergency in the Town of Erie, pursuant to the Town's authority under the Colorado Disaster Emergency Act, C.R.S. § 24-33.5-701. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the Town is using that declaration status to protect the health and safety of all residents within the Town.

Effective Sept. 11, 2021, at 12:01 a.m., and remaining in effect until the Boulder County Order is rescinded, each of the requirements of the Order will apply throughout the Town of Erie, in both Boulder County and Weld County. The extra few days provided are intended to allow businesses the proper time to plan and post signage in their places of business. Please review the full Boulder County Order for details on the definitions of a “public space” and any exceptions.

On Sept. 3, 2021, the Boulder County Board of Health issued a Public Health Order 2021-08 requiring face coverings for all people ages 2+ in public indoor spaces and on public transportation, subject to certain exceptions. Weld County has not issued a similar order. The Town Administrator, as the Town's appointed Emergency Manager, is authorized to take measures and enact regulations for public health and safety, subject to later confirmation by the Board of Trustees. This measure will go to the Board at a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 14 for ratification.

This Order is necessary to protect the public health, safety, and welfare of the community by preventing the further spread of COVID-19. It is a necessary step to attempt to avoid re-enacting capacity limits, distancing regulations, and potential shutdowns.
