Release Reported at Costigan Tank Battery Facility - Crestone Peak Resources
Crestone Peak Resources has notified the COGCC of a release that was discovered on June 7, 2021, at the Costigan Tank Battery Facility site, outside of Erie limits, approximately 1,000 feet south of the Erie Highlands neighborhood (located south of Erie Parkway and east of County Line Road).
Crestone Peak's notice indicated that a pressure test was being performed on the produced water storage vessel at the facility. The pressure test indicated that the integrity of the produced water storage vessel was compromised, resulting in a release of fluids. The estimated volume of liquid released is reported between 1-5 bbl (42-210 gal.). The storage vessel will be removed, and environmental impacts will be assessed through the collection and analysis of soil and groundwater samples (as applicable). Crestone Peak has filed an Initial Form 19 Spill/Release Report with the COGCC and will proceed with further site investigation. The COGCC Form 19 indicates that the spill/release took place on June 5, 2021.
The COGCC can provide approved documents to the public upon receipt and request.
COGCC Form 19:
A static head test was being conducted on a produced water vessel. Upon adding water to the pit for testing, the level if the produced water vessel was not stable and liquid surfaced. The produced water vessel was then emptied of water.
COGCC Form 27:
The produced water vessel will be removed and environmental impacts will be assessed through the collection and analysis of soil and groundwater samples (as applicable). If a suspected release is identified and confirmed through soil screening and/or laboratory analysis, soils may be removed and transported to a licensed disposal facility.
