September is National Preparedness Month which is designed to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes and businesses. Recognizing that every community and every citizen has a role to play in emergency readiness, the Town of Erie lends our support to this national effort.
A vital component of the Town of Erie's emergency planning is individual and family emergency preparedness. Local officials and relief workers will be on the scene after a disaster, but they cannot reach everyone immediately. Individuals could get help in hours, or it may take days. Basic services, such as electricity, gas, water, sewage treatment and telephones, may be cut off for days, even a week or longer. Families may have to evacuate at a moment’s notice. In an effort to promote individual and family emergency preparedness, the Town advises all citizens to:
