Placemaking is a way to inspire collective reimaging of public spaces to strengthen the connection between people and the places they share. Placemaking fosters creative uses of public spaces, by acknowledging the physical, cultural, and social identities that define a specific community.
An effective placemaking process leans heavily into engagement with the residents, business owners, and visitors to the area to create public spaces that contribute to health, happiness, and well-being. The Town of Erie is in the beginning phases of a thoughtful creation of a Public Art & Placemaking program and need your help in creating it! Please visit www.erieco.us/public-art to review intentions of the program, participate in a survey to help guide the direction of this new program, and view examples of other placemaking features from our neighbors. Also, stay tuned for more information coming soon about the unveiling and dedication ceremony for our very first piece of commissioned public art!
