With school out for the summer, the Town of Erie Police Department would like to remind residents of the local curfew ordinance.
It is unlawful for anyone under the age of 18 years old to be outside on any street, alley, park, playground, schoolyard, or another public area between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. For Friday and Saturday, the hours are between midnight and 5 a.m.
The following are exemptions of the Curfew Ordinance:
Engaged in lawful employment; or
Accompanied by a parent, guardian or another person of the age of 21 years, when that parent, guardian, or person has permission to have the custody and care of such minor from the minor's parent or guardian; or
Accompanied by any person between the age of 18 years and 21 years, having in his or her possession written permission from the parent or guardian of the minor to have the care or custody of such minor; or
Upon an emergency errand or legitimate business directed by the parent, guardian, or other adult person having the care and custody of the minor.
