While you were out like a light this morning (Wednesday, Sept. 28), Officer Powers noticed headlights in the Walgreens parking lot at Erie Parkway and County Line Road.
Surveillance video detected two trucks, one red Ford and one blue Chevy, arriving at the Walgreens at 2:42 a.m. Suspects broke a window, entered the store, and hoisted a chain around the ATM at about 2:51 a.m. By 2:57 a.m. Officer Powers interrupted the burglary.
The suspects fled in their trucks and eluded officers southbound on County Line Road, then eastbound on Hwy 7. At 3 a.m., the alarm company notified dispatch of the glass break.
The burglars were unsuccessful. Detectives responded to process the scene and collect evidence. The Erie Police Department is thankful for assistance from the Colorado Metropolitan Auto Theft Taskforce (C-MATT) and surrounding jurisdictions.
“This is an ongoing metro-wide theft ring that necessitates a coordinated law enforcement effort to identify the suspects. Officer Powers was in the right place at the right time,” remarked Chief of Police Kim Stewart.
This investigation is ongoing, and there is no further information.
