Letter to Residents from Mayor Carroll

Erie Residents,

Our community is experiencing an unprecedented moment of uncertainty. Health authorities suggest the situation will likely get worse before it gets better and further sacrifices to our “normal” way of life should be anticipated. While all of this can feel overwhelming at times, it is important to remember that we are a strong, kind and resilient community. We will persevere.

I want to reassure you that the services you rely on from the Town of Erie are uncompromised and we are continuously preparing for what may come next from the COVID-19 pandemic.  Below is information about the Town’s utilities, an update from the police department, and links to other community resources.

Town Services & Police

  • Your water is safe and the Town of Erie is prepared to continue providing water and wastewater services without disruption for our residents.  We have plans in place to ensure our water and wastewater treatment plants are staffed and have continuity of operations plans in place.  If your household or business is experiencing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic and want to discuss the option of a payment plan with staff, please reach out to the Town’s Utility Billing division at 303-926-2700.
  • Our police department is continuing to patrol and serve our community 24/7.  Additional health precautions are being taken in the police department lobby.
  • The municipal court is temporarily closed.
  • The Erie Community Center is temporarily closed.
  • Town Hall is closed to visitors without an appointment.
  • Coronavirus/COVID-19 scams are starting to circulate.  The Boulder County’s DA office has put together information on how to protect yourself from these scams: https://assets.bouldercounty.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/coronavirus-scams.pdf

Ideas to Provide Help for Erie Residents & Businesses

  • Text or call your neighbors to see if they need anything, especially your elderly neighbors or those with health issues.  If you don’t have their phone number, stop by their house if you’re healthy, but remember to keep at least 6’ distance and wash your hands after touching door handles, doorbells and other commonly touched surfaces.
  • Erie Uplink – providing food and gas gift cards to Erie families who rely on free/reduced school meals: http://www.erieuplink.org/
  • Erie Community Food Bank: https://eriecommunityfoodbank.com/
  • SVVSD/BVSD school schedule updates and information for families and students in need of food/additional support: https://www.svvsd.org/coronavirushttps://www.bvsd.org/current-topics/coronavirus
  • The Economic Development Department is working with local businesses to provide resources through the state and Small Business Administration: https://www.erieco.gov/1706/COVID-19-and-Small-Businesses
  • Support local businesses by ordering takeout or purchasing gift cards for future use.
  • Display artwork in your windows to brighten the spirits of those enjoying walks or drives around our community.

Additional Resources

We are working closely with representatives from the State, Boulder and Weld Counties and surrounding jurisdictions and agencies to coordinate our actions, slow the spread of COVID-19 and address the many impacts of this crisis.  The Town will continue to provide regular updates to the community regarding closures and cancellations.  Now, more than ever, we must work together for the benefit of Erie.  Thank you for your many acts of patience, kindness, support and thoughtfulness with your families, neighbors, classmates, and colleagues as we navigate this together.

With gratitude and humility,

Mayor Jennifer Carroll
