Erie Parkway Lane Closures between Bonanza/Colliers and WCR 5

Erie Parkway roadway construction will involve reduced speeds and daytime lane shifts and/or lane closures between Colliers Parkway and WCr 5 through September...

Beginning on Monday, August 2, 2021, concrete and asphalt road work will begin on Erie Parkway between Bonanza Rd/Colliers Pkwy and Weld County Road 5 as part of the Erie Parkway Improvements. The work is being done by the developer Community Development Group for their final acceptance process. The work is expected to last through September, weather permitting.

Work hours will be from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The construction will involve reduced speeds and daytime lane shifts and/or lane closures on Erie Parkway.

Motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and traffic control signs, reduce speeds and, if possible, avoid the construction area during work hours. Traffic control signage, delineators, and flaggers will be on-site to enable travel through the construction area in a timely and safe manner. Delays may occur and alternate routes are strongly recommended.

Erie Parkway - Updated Traffic Safety Plan

Sept. 9, 2021

On Thursday, Sept. 9, the Town coordinated with the contractor, Community Development Group, to modify the previous schedule to move up the work scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 15 to Monday, Sept. 13. The traffic mitigation provided by the Police Department and Public Works Department employees has been modified, in the chart.

The Town of Erie Police Department, and the Town of Erie Public Works Department, in an interest of public safety, will provide traffic control through Monday, Sept. 20 as Community Development Group (CDG) completes their work on Erie Parkway. Town Staff will utilize an alternative four-way signal pattern, which will flash at Erie Parkway and CR 5 while staff are on-site.

The following schedule of dates, (and times) is subject to change with weather, and other modifications as is customary with active construction projects. The contractor has also shared that lane restrictions will only be occurring on certain days. Town-employed staffing may not occur on those days at the intersection.

Motorists

  • Please not stop in the roadway on Weld County Road 5. When the turn lane gets full to enter the High School, motorists have been  stopping in the lane of travel and waiting to get in the turn lane which is exacerbating the traffic back up.
  • Please do not park along Colliers Parkway to wait for pickup. This is especially dangerous and makes it difficult for vehicles to drive on Colliers Pkwy with the  single lane traffic.

Updates to the traffic mitigation schedule below, will be revised within this table:

Erie Parkway Traffic Plan

Erie Parkway Alternate Routes

Sept. 1, 2021

As an alternative to potentially sitting in single lane traffic eastbound, motorists should consider an alternate route of travel.

While there are different routes, motorists might consider traveling northbound on East County Line Road to Weld County Road 10.5; turn east and travel to WCR 3; turn south to WCR 10; turn eastbound to WCR 5 and then back southbound to Soaring Heights or Erie High School.

There is no construction along the route and motorists can turn left into either lot.

Please see the below schedule for the Erie Parkway work to be performed by CDG. The schedule is subject to change.

Westbound Lanes Closed (traffic shifted to eastbound lanes)
Sept 2 (Tues & Thurs) westbound Slurry (A1 Capeseal)
Sept 3 (Fri) westbound Lane striping (Precise Striping) (skip line and median yellow first to aid in 2-way traffic on new lanes after labor day)

Eastbound Lanes Closed (traffic shifted to westbound lanes)
Sept 10 (Fri) Mill Eastbound lane sections (Asphalt Specialties)
Sept 11 (Sat) Mill Eastbound lane sections (Asphalt Specialties)
Sept 15 (Wed) Overlay Eastbound lane sections (Asphalt Specialties)
Sept 16-17 (TR/Fri) Slurry Eastbound sections (A1 Capeseal).  Really want to Slurry this side AFTER Mill and Overlay as I imagine we will end up with a better finished product
Sept 18 (Sat) Striping Eastbound lanes, returning to westbound lanes if needed

Erie Parkway Improvements - Resume Asphalt Work

Aug. 23, 2021

Beginning on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021, Community Development Group, will resume asphalt road work on Erie Parkway between the Bonanza Road and Colliers Parkway intersection and the Weld County Road 5 intersection.

The work is expected to last through mid-September, weather permitting. The construction will involve reduced speeds and daytime lane shifts and/or daytime and nighttime lane closures on Erie Parkway.

Motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and traffic control signs, reduce speeds and, if possible, avoid the construction areas. Traffic control signage, delineators and flaggers will be on site to enable travel through the construction area in a timely and safe manner. Delays may occur and alternate routes are strongly recommended.

Background
The work is spearheaded by the Colliers Hill and Erie Highlands development and is necessary to firm up the improvements previously made to widen Erie Parkway, otherwise known as ‘final acceptance’. Fortunately, projects in the Town of Erie have not been significantly impacted due to the industry-wide asphalt shortages affecting neighboring communities, thanks, in part, to strategic prioritization and planning. Read more about the asphalt shortage here. This does, however, mean that our window of opportunity for completing many of these important projects is very narrow. We have to use the resources while we have them!

For more information on this project, please contact Town of Erie Construction Inspector, Corey Kuehner at 303-926-2742.
