National Night Out Tuesday, August 6, 2019

On Tuesday, August 6, 2019, neighborhoods throughout Erie will join with thousands of communities nationwide for the Annual National Night Out (NNO) crime and drug prevention event.

The Erie Police Department will be hosting a community BBQ at Erie Community Park on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Community members are invited to come for hot dogs (while supplies last), interact with Police Officers, Firefighters, play games, enjoy the bounce castles and visit with neighbors. Vendors will be set-up with booths about community safety. Booths will also be set-up highlighting the Officer Neighborhood Program, each neighborhood is represented in 1 of 4 quadrants. Visit the booth which represent your neighborhood, meet the officers and learn more about community policing.

Neighborhood Block Parties
We encourage residents to continue their Block Party traditions, as they are a great way to build and foster community relationships.

Purpose of National Night Out

NNO is designed to raise awareness of crime and drug prevention efforts, generate support for local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and watching out for each other.

NNO can be part of ongoing Neighborhood Watch activities or even a great way to get a Neighborhood Watch Program started. Neighborhood Watch programs help neighbors work together to make everyone's quality of life better and lessen crime.

During NNO, Erie residents will lock their doors, turn on outside lights, and spend the evening outside with neighbors. Many local neighborhoods are planning a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, flashlight walks, contests and youth activities. National Night Out can be as simple as bringing your lawn chairs out front and visiting with neighbors. Ice cream is optional!
