Employment Standards
Standards
The Erie Police Department may disqualify applicants that do not meet the standards. Some of the standards include, but are not limited to:
Criminal Activity 
  • Shoplifting or theft, age 18 or older 
  • Any felony conviction
  • Felony commission, age 18 or older 
  • Misdemeanor, not including traffic, over the last five years

False Statements/ Reports
 
  • Falsification of any official document (ie., any business record) in the last three years 
  • Testifying falsely under oath in court 
  • Excessive force 
  • Physical force used against another person resulting in physical harm

Traffic 
  • Eluding a police officer, age 18 or older 
  • Driver’s license suspension, revocation or denial in the last five years 
  • Two or more traffic violations (six points or more each) in the last three years 
  • More than three traffic convictions (five points or less each) in the last three years, except for equipment violations 
  • Involvement in three or more vehicle accidents in the last three years that have been deemed your fault 
  • No convictions for DUI, DWAI, DUID, age 18 or older

Work History
 
  • Fired for cause from two non-law enforcement jobs in the last five years 
  • Falsification of employment history 
  • Receipt of three written reprimands in the last five years
  • Three sustained internal affairs or official misconduct complaints or findings in the last five years
  • Two suspensions for cause in the last five years.
  • A court martial resulting in dismissal from the military service in the last five years 
  • Three Article 15, Captain’s Mast or Company Punishment citations in the last five years
