Mount Pleasant Cemetery History
The first cemetery in Erie was located at Wells Street and Holbrook, just east of the old railroad that is now the linear park. In 1882, the Union Pacific Railroad donated land approximately one mile east of County Line Road and three quarters of a mile north of Weld County Road 8 on Weld County Road 3. The first burial at this new location was that of a Union Pacific depot agent.

Until 1927, a horse and wagon were used to take the deceased to their final resting places. Many of the tombstones are representative of the area's coal mining years. Marked and unmarked graves belong to victims of mining accidents and flu and diphtheria epidemics. Some of the honored dead buried in the cemetery are veterans of the Spanish American War, Civil War, World War I, World War II and Vietnam.
