2018 Erie Municipal Election Update

During Tuesday night’s meeting, the Board of Trustees received an election update from Pam Anderson – Principal at Consilium Colorado. Ms. Anderson, an elections consultant hired by the Town in February of this year serves as the Executive Director of the County Clerks Association in Colorado and is a recognized election expert with over 15 years of experience conducting city and county elections in Colorado and nationwide. Anderson has previously served as the City Clerk in Wheatridge, CO (21,000 registered voters) and the Clerk and Recorder in Jefferson County, CO (400,000 registered voters).


Anderson introduced the Elections Team which consists of Town of Erie Deputy Town Clerk Jessica Koenig who serves as the Designated Election Official; Senior Administrative Services Manager Amy Teetzel and seven Election Judges.


Anderson informed the Board that voters have access to the Voter Service Center located in the Town Hall Board Room, Monday through Friday until Election Day. The Voter Service Center is open from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and on Election Day, Tuesday, April 3rd, it will be open from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. The Voter Service Center has election judges available to provide registration forms, ballot replacements and is open for ballot drop-off.

Board Continues Waste Connections Agreement

The comprehensive agreement and pre-annexation agreement between the Town and Waste Connections scheduled for the Board of Trustees’ consideration and determination during last night’s meeting were continued until April 24th.

Terms of the comprehensive agreement involve both the Denver Regional and Front Range landfills located along the west and east sides of Weld County Road 5 respectively and include but are not limited to the following:

  • A firm closure date of the Denver Regional Landfill located on the west side of Weld County Road 5, with the last receipt of waste to occur no later than December 31, 2020. The operator will immediately begin capping and will complete the closure of the landfill.
  • Relocation of truck traffic away from Sheridan Parkway and County Road 4.
  • Landscaping improvements, including dedicated bicycle and pedestrian trail improvements along County Road 5 will be proposed and constructed at the sole cost and expense of Front Range Landfill.
  • Waste Connections will relocate the hauling company’s facility that is currently located off of County Line Road, just north of Highway 7.
  • The southeast ¼ of section 28 will be annexed and then under the Town’s jurisdiction and authority.
  • Front Range Landfill will apply to CDPHE for expansion of permitted foot print and capacity (approximately 48 acres).
  • Waste Connections will contribute $4.25 million towards the Erie Town Hall Expansion Project.

Board Approves New Setback Requirements

The Board of Trustees considered and approved an amendment to Title 10 of the Town of Erie Municipal Code that will revise the minimum setback distances of residential lots, non-residential buildings, right-of-ways, parks and trails from existing oil and gas wells and above ground facilities. The Board approved the amendment on First Reading.

Revisions to 10.6.14.A Existing Oil and Gas Wells and Production include:

All development with existing oil and gas wells and associated above ground production facilities shall provide the following setback to lots, buildings, streets, trails and parks from existing wells and associated above ground production facilities:

  1. Residential lots, non-residential buildings, community parks, neighborhood parks and pocket parks shall be set back a minimum of 350 feet.
  2. Street right-of-ways and trails shall be setback a minimum of 150 feet.

The April 10, 2018 Regular Board of Trustees meeting has been cancelled.  The next regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. All meetings are held in the Town Hall boardroom located at 645 Holbrook Street in Erie.
