CPRA Awards Presented to Erie Parks & Recreation

Each year, the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association (CPRA) organizes an awards program, held during the annual CPRA Conference, which is designed to recognize and celebrate outstanding individuals and organizations that contribute to the success and value of parks and recreation in the state of Colorado. During Tuesday night’s meeting Allison Kincaid, Executive Director of CPRA presented the Town of Erie Parks and Recreation Department with three prestigious awards:

  • 2017 Columbine Award for Innovation - ‘I Hear You!’
    The ‘I Hear You!’ project paired up 33 high school students with 33 members of our Active Adult Community. Students were assigned to interview their partner, then write and compile their stories in a book. This project resulted in a published book rich in local history about residents from our greatest generation.

  • 2017 Columbine Award for Programming - The Great Erie Outdoor Adventure
    The Great Erie Outdoor Adventure is a unique and safe overnight campout event that promotes family bonding, community bonding, a connection to nature and overall fun. Activities include: stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, zip-lining, archery, a movie in the park, and s’mores around the campfire.

  • 2017 Outstanding New Professional Award - Matt David
    The Outstanding New Professional Award is a prestigious award given to one professional for the entire state of Colorado. Matt David was the recipient due to his leadership, drive, and innovative contributions to parks and recreation services


Board Approves Airport Management and Operating Agreement

During Tuesday night’s meeting, the Board approved the Airport Management and Operating Agreement with Vector Air Management, LLC (Vector). This is the Third Amendment to the Management and Operating Agreement, the original contract was for 2011-2016; the second amendment was for 2017. This proposed Third Amendment is a 5 year contract that will commence on January 1, 2018 and will be in effect until December 31, 2022.

Operating Agreement Highlights:

  • Term: Five (5) years
  • Vector Air Management, LLC to make fixed monthly payment of $3,335 to the Town
  • Vector is responsible for all maintenance & operations
  • Vector is to comply with FAA and TSA rules and regulations


Board Reviews Two Sketch Plans

During Tuesday night’s meeting, the Board of Trustees reviewed two Sketch Plans.

The first was for the proposed Vista Ridge Filing 6, Lot 7 subdivision. This property is located north and east of the State Highway 7 and Bonanza Drive intersection, and is located immediately west of the Blue Sky apartments. This property is approximately 10 acres in size with plans that include 23 single-family attached townhome buildings. The townhomes are an alley-loaded product with 3, 4, 5, or 6 units in each.

The second Sketch Plan reviewed was for the proposed Schmidt Subdivision. This property is located north and east of the reverse curve of Jay Road. It is west of the Lost Creek Farms subdivision and south of the Erie Village and Kenosha Farms subdivisions. This property is approximately 90 acres in size with plans that include 119 dwelling units; 18 acres of Open Space; and 1 pocket park. As a part of the Lombardi Street extension (which will be constructed by the developer), the developer will continue the existing trail on the south side of Erie Village west to Lombardi Street.

A Sketch Plan represents a generalized land use plan and layout for the area proposed to be included within a subdivision. Sketch Plan is required to allow early, informal evaluation of a proposed subdivision before detailed planning and engineering work has been undertaken and before substantial expenses have been incurred by the applicant.

The Board of Trustees will meet in a Study Session on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. The next regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. All meetings are held in the Town Hall boardroom located at 645 Holbrook Street in Erie.
