In the past seven days, the Erie Police Department has received reports of 11 vehicle trespasses. In each vehicle trespass case, the vehicle doors were unlocked. It only takes seconds to steal items of value from a vehicle or a residence. In the crimes this week, a firearm was stolen, a vehicle with attached trailer along with many other personal items. Thieves often grab cell phones, iPads, wallets, keys, personal identification documents and other small, easy-to-conceal items. It is believed that these thieves are coming from outside communities to target Erie residents because residents are seen as easy targets. The Erie Police Department would like to remind residents to not leave valuables in plain view inside your vehicle and if possible, take them inside with you or lock them in your trunk. Remember to keep your car doors locked and park your vehicle in well-lit areas. Even if you happen to be in the back of your home doing yard work or playing with the kids or pets, keep the garage closed and the front portion of your house locked. Do NOT make it easy for a thief to steal from you!Anyone with information regarding these or any other crimes are asked to please contact the Erie Police Department at 303-926-2800. If you see suspicious activity in your neighborhood please call Boulder County Dispatch at 303-441-4444 for non-emergency calls, or 9-1-1 if you have an emergency.
