The Community Development Department consists of two main administrative divisions: the Planning Division and the Building Division.
The Building Division is a one-stop shop for individuals planning improvements to their properties. The division reviews construction plans, issues permits, performs inspections, and enforce ordinances that ensure safe buildings and a healthy environment. It also manages the licensing of contractors and trades.
The Planning Division is responsible for reviewing all land use development applications from annexations through final plat, setting, noticing and providing staff support for public hearings, and review of development applications.
Staff provides information to the public regarding zoning, the land use review process, setback requirements, flood plain status, and allowable uses. The department is also responsible for the administration and updating of the Town of Erie Comprehensive Plan, Unified Development Code, and other related regulations.
